Last heard pop star Rihanna has turned fashion designer. She will design in collaboration with high street store River Island. Known for her wild design style, we seriously need to see if it is the start of a new career for Ri-Ri. Celebrity collaborations are nothing new in the world of fashion. Many celebrities have turned their hand to fashion designing. Some have collaborated with known names while others have started a new brand. Here are a few successful stories of celebrities who turned fashion designers and made a name for themselves in this field as well.

  • Victoria Beckham

Ex-spice girl Victoria Beckham has always been fashion lovers favorite with her dashing sense of style. Her designs are sold under the Victoria Beckham label better known as DVB. She began by designing jeans for Rock & Republic, and then moved to successful dress collection in 2008. She designs dresses, denim, eyewear and accessories. Her dresses are mostly figure hugging, tailored, classy, and favored by the likes of Kate Winslet, Kim Kardashian and many more celebrities.

  • Beyoncé Knowles

Beyoncé started her clothesline House of Dereon in 2005, with her mother Tina Knowles. Inspired by three generations of women, especially her grandmother, it’s a family affair. With her impeccable fashion taste, she loves to create wearable dresses, such as party dresses, casual jeans, tops and jackets.

  • Nicole Richie

The adopted daughter of Lionel Richie, Nicole has made a successful carrier in fashion designing. Earlier infamous for drug abuse, reckless ways, and being the best friend of Paris Hilton, she settled down and built a successful fashion empire. Starting with boho-chic jewelry line House of Harlow 1960, she added sunglasses and shoes and later launched ready to wear collection called Winter Kate which includes footwear, jewelry, eyewear and handbags. Later, while pregnant, she also designed maternity clothes line for maternity boutique A Pea in the Pod. She has won many awards for her fashion lines.

  • Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

The twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen became fashion icons after Full House and video carriers. Known for their edgy dress sense they created their own clothes line. After designing for mass market with their children’s clothing line for Wal-Mart, they created the Row for New York fashion week and Elizabeth and James- the lower prized clothes line. Thus they became known for both the high and low ends of the price spectrum. They added a diffusion line for teens called Olsenboye. Known for their boho chic style, their fans include big names like Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Jay-Z (born Shawn Corey Carter) is a famous hip-hop musician, but still decided to venture into fashion industry. Taking advantage of his huge popularity, he launched his fashion line Rocawear. It has become one of the most popular brands of casual urban clothes with hip-hop urban designs. Rocawear now includes wide range of fashion wear such as handbags, belts, hats, jewelry, junior’s clothes, baby clothes,  and men’s and women’s footwear. With annual sales more than $700 million, this brand covers almost everything related to fashion wear.
