Green Porn: Can nude Miranda Kerr save Koalas?

Miranda Kerr goes nude for the front cover of Rolling Stone’s new green issue with a purpose in mind. Well, it is to raise awareness for the environment. More specifically, she wants to do her part in protecting the koala’s natural habitat. The inclusion of a real koala made the photo shoot even more interesting, as she represents Australian Koala Foundation‘s “No Tree, No Me” campaign. Hoping to send a powerful message, she does it to defend some 100,000 koalas left in Australia.

Green porn vs. not-so-Green ethics

Is it pretension or some serious concern that leads celebs to expose themselves? Going with the former argument seems a bit difficult to me as the monetary benefits always play a major role in such nude campaigns. Joining the brigade led by Eva Mendes, Amanda Beard and Joanna Krupa, Miranda might have done it to increase her market value. Celebs do it to jolt their fans’ psyche. In addition, what they aim at is publicizing their not-so-green affectations with a see-through mask.

Besides, they do promote eroticism. In view of what went above, I’m sure for the first five minutes no one would even notice the word “Koala” in this whole fiction. Even after that, I doubt that online readers and even die-hard fans of Miranda Kerr would have enough time to spend understanding the cause.

Nude Celebs pretend to save the Environment:

Khloe Kardashian:

Compassion is the fashion this holiday season, so join me in boycotting fur.

4

Alicia Silverstone:

There’s nothing in the world that’s changed me as much as this. I feel so much better and have so much more energy.

1

Eva Mendes:

There are way too many amazing faux fur options out there for people to still be wearing real fur. I want people to know that there are options; that killing a poor animal and wearing it isn’t cool. But respecting all life forms is cool. Very cool.

2

Holly Madison:

I always fake it…I’d never wear real fur.

3

Sophie Monk:

I think the message to KFC eaters [is that] you should think about what you’re eating. If you’re eating deformed animals that are being induced by hormones, you know, it can not be good for you.

7

Maggie Q:

I feel better, I have more energy on and off the set, and I have the satisfaction of knowing that I’m doing something to help stop animal suffering.

5

Sadie Frost:

I’m not for the killing of any creature, whether it be seals, cows, dogs [or any animal]. So anytime it comes to any kind of animal cruelty, I’m totally against it.

13

Amanda Beard:

Seeing animals slaughtered to be worn as fashion is awful to me, so I’m definitely against wearing fur … I’d much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body.

8

Kristen Johnston:

I was blown away by how these horses live, or actually I should say, don’t live. I’d say to tourists who are considering coming to New York, there’s so much amazing stuff about Manhattan … Oh my God, just take a walk. And I hope within the next year that there are no more carriage horses.

10

Joanna Krupa:

[T]here is nothing sexy about wearing something that is so obviously tied to senseless pain and killing.

9

Roselyn Sanchez:

[The animals] are electrocuted, they drown them, they suffocate them; it’s insanity what they do to these animals. … For human beings to take the liberty of just killing something to look pretty is insane.

A ploy?

If there is anyone who is benefited, it’s the magazine since this promotional tactics will definitely lead to increased sales. Above and beyond this, it’ll go on to boost Kerr’s fan following, which I fear is the real cause.
