'Sex and the City' star adopts a child

Kristin Davis

Kristin Davis, the Hollywood star best known for her role as Charlotte York in the all-time hit TV and film series “Sex and the City,” has adopted a baby girl. She broke this news to the world on October 7, 2011. The baby has been named Gemma Rose Davis. Kristin Davis is single and is extremely excited at the responsibilities ahead of her. In interviews following the adoption through a domestic adoption agency, she shared that this was something that she had wanted for a very long time, and that having this wish come true was more gratifying than she had imagined. She described herself as feeling blessed.

Kristin Davis has had an exciting career path, starting with waiting tables as she tried to find a foothold in the entertainment industry in New York. In her years as a struggling actress, she was seen in shows such as General Hospital, Friends, Will and Grace, and Seinfeld. She even taught yoga at her own yoga studio and did bit roles in the television industry till she found the role of the villainous schemer, Brooke Campbell in Melrose Place in 1995. This was her first major break. In 1998, she was chosen to be part of the now iconic Sex and the City foursome.

Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall and Cynthia Nixon, she went about creating television history for the next 6 years, following it up with the two films based on the show. The show focused on the relationship between these four self assured and decidedly adventurous women and explored the entire gamut of contemporary urban morality through their lives. While many have openly criticized the series for its overt trivialization of sexual relationships, the fact remains that this was one of the most watched and most loved series of all times, making it to the Times list of all-time best TV shows.

In many ways, the final season of Sex and the City had given the world an indication that this day would come, when Harry and Charlotte, the characters from the serial went about adopting a daughter from China. Kristin’s caring nature is evident from her wildlife activism as well as her role as the ambassador for the anti-poverty organization Oxfam. She is actively involved with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a Kenya based organization working with orphaned elephants and rhinos and helping them return to their natural wild habitat.

At a personal level, Kristin has been linked in the past with Jeff Goldblum, Alec Baldwin and Rick Fox, but she has never married. This 46-year-old actress is also a recovering alcoholic with more than 20 years of sobriety under her belt, all of it one day at a time. Her thoughts about marriage, parenting and adoption have been out in the open since her 2010 interviews where she declared that this was something she had to think through. In her opinion, the best situation would be one where both parents are there for the child. However, given the fact that she is single, she shared her concerns about being able to do it on her own. But it would seem that she did manage to talk herself into it, and her happiness after the adoption was evident as she was captured by photographers when she took her dogs out for a walk recently and couldn’t stop smiling for the cameras.

Motherhood will be at the center of this exciting period of Kristin’s life, with her wildlife activism, her apparel business, and her involvement with the anti-famine movement in Somalia also demanding her time and attention. Both Kristin and Gemma Rose Davis are truly blessed to have each other in their lives.
